Day +4

Four days after the transplant, Jeanne is doing well. It will still be a week or more before the new stem cells engraft into her bone marrow and start producing new blood cells. She is feeling tired but optimistic. She continues to walk about a mile a day around the unit, and is enjoying reading The Fifth Sacred Thing by Starhawk.

It's been a while since I dropped you a line. It's wonderful to see pictures of you on the blog. There's even a little gleam in your eyes!! Although I know the days ahead will be exhausting for you, your positive attitude, overwhelming courage, and strong spirit will help lead the way to your recovery. We are all pulling for you, and continue to pray for a speedy return to the S O N!!! Stay strong, Jeanne. You are in my thoughts each and everyday. Love, G

Hi, Jeanne and family. I'm glad to see the picture of you sitting up, with your faintly sardonic look as people examine you...lots of love, mog

Dear Jeanne,
It is so comforting for everybody who cares about you to see how well you look both "Before" and "After." And how much love and support you have. You are in the thoughts of everyone here at Downstate.
Love,
Ronnie

Hi Jeanne,
Do you remember the story about the spider plant? It sprouted a new little bud the very day of your transplant. When you left the plant with me, it was the same old sider plant. But today, 10 days after your procedure, it's thriving! This isn't just a fluke, or an event by chance. It's simply a symbol of what lies ahead. Your wonderful new healthy way of life is ready and patiently waiting for you, Jeanne. Just wait, you'll see. While I continue to provide TLC to "Ms. Spider", let everyone around do the same for you. When you return, you'll see what I mean. In my thoughts, always. Love, G
