I am so sad, and my heart breaks for you Jon, Josina and Josh. I taught a class tonight with 9 midwives, and there was a candle lit for Jeanne during the whole class. It will burn all night as well. I so loved teaching with her. And learning from her. And our friendship. Please take care,
- Linda Diane

It is with a very heavy heart that I send this message. Jeanne was an inspiration, mentor, best-friend, confidant, and hero to me in so many aspects of her life. I feel her spirit here with me and know the world is a better place because of her life. You are all constantly in my thoughts. Love, Jody

Jeanne meant so much to her students. She has helped form countless midwives through her teaching and example, and so touched the lives of so many women. I am so saddened by her loss, and my thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends.

Dear Jon, Josh, & Josina! I send you my deepest condolences at this time of great loss.

My brain is overflowing with vivid and wonderful memories of my more than 2 decades of collegial work and friendship with Jeanne. She was an invaluable member of the JNM/JMWH team and contributed so generously to its growth into a well-respected, peer reviewed publication ... not only nationally, but internationally. Who can ever forget her engaging smile, her soft spoken charm, her tenacity when she believed in a position or a cause, her generous spirit of volunteerism, and so many other other attributes that were uniquely hers? She has left a deep void in midwifery education and research and her legacy will encompass so many far reaching dimensions that it is impossible to capture at this time.
Rest in peace, dear Jeanne!
With love and admiration,
Mary Ann Shah

My thoughts and love are sent to Jeanne's family.

It was a very sad message to receive yesterday morning and one that we tried to pass personally to her friends and colleagues in the ACNM Division of Research. Jeanne taught us so much about being a humanitarian, vision, love, midwifery, and social justice. She was talented in so many ways, and a dear friend. We have lost one of the midwives so needed in our profession.

I personally learned so much from her leadership and mentorship. I will forever miss our debates about "what should be and what can we work with"! I too, feel special to have been her friend and will miss her deeply.

Thank you Jeanne for being you!

Love,

Holly Kennedy and your colleagues in the Division of Research

I am flooded with memories and grief and even disbelief. And with gratitude for knowing Jeanne.
I am helping to arrange some accommodations in and near Ann Arbor for those who prefer not to stay in a hotel; I'll be providing the info soon.

Jeanne was a friend, mentor, role model and educator to so many of us in the midwifery community. To honor her memory, we will have a book at the upcoming ACNM annual meeting so that many of us can share our thoughts further about the many ways she touched our lives and those of others. The book will be presented to her family after the meeting. It is so hard to believe that Jeanne is not with us but I know that the wisdom she so generously shared with us all is just one of the many legacies she has left that will benefit the lives of numerous women and their families. While I didn't know Jeanne personally, I can see how much she meant to so many. I have known Josh since college and I think I know where at least part of his compassion, strength and dedication to doing what's right comes from. My best to you, Josh, and to your family. I'm thinking of you.

Much love,
Kim DeFeo
