Day +4

Four days after the transplant, Jeanne is doing well. It will still be a week or more before the new stem cells engraft into her bone marrow and start producing new blood cells. She is feeling tired but optimistic. She continues to walk about a mile a day around the unit, and is enjoying reading The Fifth Sacred Thing by Starhawk.

Transplant Day

Jeanne began receiving her Bone Marrow Tranplant tonight about 8:30 surrounded by friends and family. The transplant is going well (still dripping), and Jeanne is in high spirits despite a long day. It usually takes a few weeks before the stem cells engraft into her marrow and start producing, and we will keep you posted.

Jeanne is very thankful for all the love, support and kindness people have been sending her and her family. She is also grateful to the anonymous stem cell donor whose cells she is receiving, and to all those who have donated blood, platelets and stem cells.

While she doesn't have energy to return all her phone calls, she is happy to be receive the messages. Her spirits were boosted this evening with a surprise visit from old friends from the west coast, and she appreicates whatever support people have to offer during the next few weeks that she is in the hospital.
